Lodging in the Northern Bighorns
December 3, 2025
Riders Report summary
*This is an overall summary. The Bighorns are a massive mountain range. Certain areas and elevations may vary greatly.
Report Summary: We’re still hopeful! Snow is on the way. Slow starts usually mean a better and longer winter. I am certainly not hitting the panic button and neither should you.
Previous*significant Storm: n/a
Latest Storm: 11/29
Previous Snow Depth: 4”-10”
Current Snow Depth: 8”-18”
Snow Quality: Pretty thin.
Avalanche Observations: Nothing to observe yet. November’s dry spell may play a factor on a few north facing slopes, but most of the mountain was still snow-less. The recents storms have come after the cold-front, which is good. We wont have to worry too much about a tricky ice layer like some places further west who received more snow that didn’t completely melt off during the November warm-front.
Backcountry Conditions Rating: D+ There’s simply not enough snow yet to get off a road.
Trail Conditions: No trails have been groomed as of yet.
Future Forecast: A good consistent flow of cold air and moisture will be hitting the Bighorns the next 10 days with a chance of 20” of snow. This will be great to get things rollling for a peak January-April season.
