Wyoming High Country Tour
Starting at $275/person - 2 rider minimum
Looking to get off the beaten path? Our Wyoming High Country Tour takes you deep into the northern Bighorn Mountains, riding from a remote basecamp at Wyoming High Country Lodge, located 22 miles north of Bear Lodge and Burgess Junction, access via snowmobile only! This is not a great tour if you only have a day or two. Recommended for several days due to its remoteness.
This experience offers something different. With fewer tracks, less traffic, and a backcountry setting that feels truly wild, it’s a chance to explore untouched terrain in a more exclusive setting.
You’ll ride big country with experienced guides, returning to lodge comforts at the end of the day. This experience lets you see parts of the Bighorns many will never see.
Perfect for:
Riders who want a quieter, more remote experience
Groups staying at Wyoming High Country Lodge
Anyone looking for a more all-inclusive snowmobile adventure
Important Notes:
Avalanche gear required (rentals available)
Lodging, guiding, and rentals must be booked separately
Skill levels: Intermediate to Advanced recommended
Book early — space is limited due to remote access and group size
FAQs:
How do I get there? You can ride a sled 22 miles from Burgess Junction, or, you can park at the Crystal Creek Parking lot off of Highway 14A 45 minutes from Lovell, Wyoming. This is a 3 mile trail ride, which is more convenient if you don’t want to be far away from your vehicle. High Country Lodge offers shuttle services from Crystal Creek, free if you are a client of ours.
Is this tour for beginners? It is possible, but for High Country Tours, snowmobile experience is recommended.

About our tours
Our backcountry tour is perfect for those who crave a physical challenge, whether you're a total novice or a seasoned pro searching for the best terrain and untouched powder the Bighorns have to offer. As guides, our goal is to help you leave a better rider than when you arrived. These tours are more physically demanding than our scenic trail rides, but we can always adjust the pace to match your group's needs.
Tours kick off at 9 AM, with the goal of returning to the truck an hour before sunset—or whenever the first rider taps out. A typical day covers 30 to 60 miles, depending on snow conditions (and trust us, that’s a lot of mountain miles). We encourage you to push your limits and try new things within your comfort zone. And don’t worry about getting stuck—if you’re not getting stuck, you’re not riding hard enough!
No matter the snow conditions, we ride. The Bighorns offer a diverse range of terrain, from easy-rolling hills to steep, technical canyons, making it perfect for all skill levels. Expect plenty of meadow mashing and wide-open alpine-style spaces—but don’t let your guard down, because the Bighorns also have some seriously steep and technical terrain waiting to challenge you.
Our guides study weather patterns, snow depths, and scout relentlessly to find untracked snow. However, this is federally protected public land, meaning untouched snow is never a guarantee.
Tips for your guides are encouraged and are expected if you feel your guide did a good job. (15-20%)
*does not include taxes and fees
*avalanche beacons, probes, and shovels are required for our backcountry tours. Avalanche kits may be rented seperately for $45/day.
Determining Your Skill Level
We take riders of all skill levels out. But if you’re looking for a group to ride with, we might put you into a group of similar skill levels. When you book, you will be asked what your skill level is. This allows our guides to plan their routes ahead of time. Here’s a guide:
Beginner - No snowmobiling experience. Beginners usually spend the whole day learning and usually don’t get too far from the trail. Usually clients from warm weather climates fall in this category.
Intermediate - Some snowmobiling experience. May have no issues on the trail, but need to practice some basic backcountry skills like sidehilling. Usually clients who ride extensively in the east fall in this category if it’s their first time mountain riding.
Experienced - Usually have no issues going wherever. Can hold a sidehill, counter-steer, etc. Not too comfortable in trees yet.
Advanced - Have no issues sidehilling or mashing meadows. Want to play in steep technical trees. Can get themselves unstuck most of the time. Might need practice with reentries and hop-overs.
Pro - Same level as our guides. Can do reentries, hop-overs, and can sidehill in steep technical trees.
Elite - You are the next prodigy. The 1% of the 1%.

FAQs
When is the best time to book? February and March is peak season, so certainly want to plan those ahead of time. We typically start guiding January 10th and will end around April 15th. We can do December, but it’s very unreliable in terms of snow conditions. The Bighorns are best later in the season.
Is it safe? Yes, very safe, because we take it seriously! The Bighorns have avalanches and we can see whiteout conditions, but going with an experienced guide can make you feel at ease.
Do you offer rentals? Yes, we do! We offer Ski-Doo mountain sleds.
Cancellation policy
We have a 15 day cancellation policy for guided tours, meaning you get a full refund if you cancel 15 days in advance. We offer no refunds for trips cancelled within 15 days unless we can fill your spot.
